What was so unexpected is that not only is the Blu Ray picture quality incredible on my Sony SRDX 1080p TV, but also regular DVD movies look incredible compared to the old DVD player I was using. I expected the Blu Ray picture to be excellent. I would have rated it as excellent, but the load time for the Blu Ray discs take well over a minute just as other people have complained. I cannot fairly evaluate the units capability in that field without more testing. Blu-Ray is in a world, all it's own, with very limited applications available at this time. In addition, it does a great job with DVD's.

It plays CD's very well, and you get full Dolby processing of them. If you are going to hook it directly to your TV, via HDMI, it will work like a charm and, if your A/V Receiver has HDMI ports, it will work perfectly in that arena also. Why can't this unit do the same?Īll-in-all, I consider the BDP300 a good unit for most applications. I also have a SONY DVD Recorder, which DOES provide progressive scan recording AND playback, via the component video route. Frankly, I consider this a SONY, in both their DA1000ES receiver, and in the BDP-300 unit. My A/V receiver, which is a Sony model DA1000 unit does NOT have HDMI inputs! Therefore, I am forced to either direct-connect the video from the BDP-300 to my Hitachi 52" flat screen, and connect the audio via optical cable to my A/V amplifier OR, live without Progressive Scan.

You cannot get HD via the S-Video route at all.

It also has a component video output, and standard left-right audio connectors and S-VIDEO connector. The S301 has a built-in Dolby Decoder, and can output the 5 signals separately, via RCA plugs. You will also need a TOSVIDEO (Optical) cable, if you really want to get the full, surround sound, DOLBY experience from this machine OR, a dolby equipped A/V amplifier with separate inputs for each set of speakers. You CAN get 1080 in the interlaced mode, using component video hookup. To get 1080 in progressive scan mode, you will have to purchase a HDMI cable.

This will permit you to connect the unit to either your TV or to your A/V Amplifier however, it will NOT permit you to connect it to use it in HD mode or, to obtain the built-in Dolby audio functions. Included with the unit are a power cord, and three RCA equipped cables. It comes with a great Sony multipurpose remote control, which can be programmed to control most of your other Home Theater equipment. It does a beautiful job of playing all media and, has the ability to "boost" your SD items up to High Def. It is small enough to fit comfortably within most Home Theater cabinets, and is light enough to move around easily. NOTE that these comments are also applicable to the BDP-S300 machine as well. This scattered light diminishes black levels and clearly has a visible negative impact on the projected image. This is a great CD/DVD/BLU RAY player and, it comes at a very reasonable price. This is well explained in the graph below. The issue with standard panels which have a bigger pixel interstice is the fact that reflective light is “polluting” surrounding pixels. With a very small pitch between each pixel the light is reflected in a very straight way. So what are the key advantages of this technology?Īs indicated by its name, SXRD panels are a “reflective” kind of panel. All these specific markets are addressed by Sony SXRD panels. SXRD brings key advantages to the most demanding projection needs Sony has now been developing this technology for more than 15 years to bring the most advanced video projection to Digital Cinema, High-End Home Cinema, Planetariums and Flight simulations. Only one year later the first 4K Digital Cinema projector appears on the market – the SRX-R105, with its 1,55’’ 4K native (4096 x 2160) panels. The Qualia 004 also came armed with the first generation of SXRD panels (0,78’’ - Full HD - 1920 x 1080). So, how are these panels working and what are their advantages?Ģ003 was a revolution for Home Cinema with the arrival of the Qualia 004, the world's first Full HD-compatible projector for domestic consumer use! It was the first home-use projector in the industry to be equipped with the newly developed pure Xenon lamp. First adapted to TV sets, Sony then decided to dedicate this technology to front projectors. It is in this context that Silicon X-Tal Reflective Display (SXRD) panels have been developed. Ideal for business projectors, 3-LCD technology paved the way to a premium type of panel that has been developed by Sony to meet the needs of Digital and Home Cinema. Since then, 3-LCD technology has evolved, becoming capable of dealing with higher resolutions. Qualia 004, the first Sony projector equipped with SXRD panels.
